heritage hallerhouse garden about henrietta granville whidbey donate news

Time is running out for the Haller House campaign.
We won’t have another chance to save the stories this house can tell.

Historic Whidbey is engaged in a capital campaign to acquire and rehabilitate the 1866 Haller House as an educational site for public benefit – a “Territorial Heritage Center”. Acquisition of this valuable waterfront property is the first and most challenging step of this transformation.

Our last best hope is to qualify for a matching grant from the Washington State Legislature’s Heritage Capital Projects Fund, which can potentially provide a full 1/3 of the purchase price. Through the generosity of our donors, Historic Whidbey was recently able to raise the funds necessary to qualify for this matching grant; we submitted our application on May 19 of this year. The state grant screening committee will make its decision by mid-August.

Our purchase agreement with the current owners of the property requires a readiness to conduct the purchase by August 31, 2016. Unfortunately, even if our bid for state funds is approved, disbursement of grant monies is not slated until June of 2017 - too late to meet the requirements of our purchase agreement. Therefore, our campaign to raise purchase funds continues as the August 31 purchase deadline approaches.

Please donate to our campaign today and secure the Haller House for public benefit once and for all – no amount is too small!

Whether your gift is used to execute the purchase of the house and property or its rehabilitation, rest assured that your donation will be applied to the capital needs of the project.
