Candace Wellman

Author Candace Wellman returns to Coupeville.

In her award-winning Peace Weavers, Wellman explored the native women of Puget Sound’s cross-cultural marriages. In Interwoven Lives, she profiles four additional indigenous wives who influenced mid-1800s settlement in the north Sound region. Among their Euro-American husbands was future Confederate General George E. Pickett, who married a Haida woman while stationed at Fort Bellingham in the 1850s. Don't miss this enlightening discussion of our founding mothers!
